Vaccine Updates

Many children already received doses of "Prevnar". Now there is an "updated" vaccine which is called "Prevnar 13". This provides the children with 6 additional strains of Pneumococcal Protection. The CDC recommends this additional dose to protect your children from the additional strains that were not provided in Prevnar 7.

Tdap required for all 7th Graders

Beginning in the fall of 2010, all students entering 7th grade will now be required to show proof of having received the improved tetanus "booster" immunization, called Tdap. The vaccine helps prevent whooping cough, a serious disease in young children. Although most of our patients have already received this vaccine, if you have a child who is entering 7th grade, be sure to verify that the Tdap vaccine has been received.

You may have received a notification phone call from us regarding a change in school immunization requirements for students entering 7th grade, effective with the 2010-2011 school year. Recently, the Ohio Dept of Health revised immunization requirements to include a dose of Tetanus vaccine, to be administered BEFORE a student enters 7th grade. To help make this more convenient, we will now recommend it (and the other "adolescent" immunizations) beginning at 11 years of age, to prevent the need for an appointment just to receive this one immunization.

Please call our office at 440-842-1121 to schedule an appointment for your child’s yearly physical exam, which will include the required vaccine. Please call well in advance of your child’s school start date in order for us to provide optimum scheduling opportunities for your convenience.

Vaccine Shortages - No Longer!

We now have plenty of all vaccines, including Hib, Hepatitis A and the chicken pox vaccine, for everyone who should receive them.
